Dr. Phoebe Koundouri is a globally renowned expert in sustainable development, recognized in Stanford University's Top 2% of world scientists. She is a Professor at the School of Economics, Director of the ReSEES Laboratory at Athens University of Economics and Business, and a Research Professor at the Technical University of Denmark. She also directs the Sustainable Development Unit at the ATHENA Information Technology Research Center.
Dr. Koundouri holds an MPhil and PhD in Economics from the University of Cambridge and has held academic positions at leading institutions such as Cambridge, UCL, Reading, and LSE. She has published 18 books and over 600 scientific papers, with work featured in top journals like Nature and The Lancet. She is an elected member of several prestigious academies and serves on the Nominating Committee for the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences.
She has served as President of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists and chairs the World Council of Environmental and Natural Resource Economists Associations. Dr. Koundouri has received the European Research Council Synergy Grant and the Academy of Athens Award for Scientific Excellence.
As the director of the Alliance of Excellence for Research and Innovation on Aeiphoria (AE4RIA), she coordinates extensive international research efforts. She also chairs the UN SDSN Global Climate Hub and co-chairs SDSN Europe. Her advisory roles include work with the UN, World Bank, European Commission, and other major organizations, shaping global sustainable development policies.
